Okay, pretty sure most people are aware, but Ikea is one of the greatest low-cost, environmentally and socially friendly companies out there. Where else can you get light fixtures you feel good about for under $10?!? Their forestry policy states that they won’t accept wood products from in-tact natural forests or from forests with a “clearly defined high conservation value.” They have specially trained inspectors that go all over the world to factories that produce their products to make sure they are living up to Ikea’s standards. They work actively to prevent child labour. They even got one of their suppliers to switch from soaking rattan in diesel oil to palm oil. So, I know I’m just raving here, but where else can you spend so little money and know that you’re not supporting sweatshops, or child labour, or irresponsible loggin practices? So, support Ikea!
